We have listed a few ideas here, however, please feel free to ask us at reception for personal recommendations. Additionally, you should check out our Blog for inspiration derived from our wardens’ trips on their days off.
There are lots of things to do in and around Aberystwyth and Devil’s Bridge.
Walks from the Campsite
Ask at reception for a map for various walks from or near the campsite. You can walk from the camping field up to the top of the mountain overlooking Woodlands, or do the 1 hour ‘Mill’ walk (Maybe two hours if you stop at The Hafod Pub for a drink on the way past!).
For example, ask us about the lovely circular walking route, often known as the Weatherman Walking route. This 6.5-mile trail goes from Devil’s Bridge through the upper Rheidol Valley, Ystumtuen, and Ysbyty Cynfyn, eventually passing by the old mine remains and Parsons Bridge. (A map is available to borrow).
Devil’s Bridge Waterfalls
Walk a short distance from the Woodlands Caravan Park to the turnstile entrance for the Waterfalls Nature Trail. This circular walk takes approximately 45 minutes and leads you deep into the wooded gorge.

See the unique sight of three bridges built one on top of another. Descend the steep “Jacob’s Ladder” steps to reach the bottom of the valley. From here, you can gaze up at the spectacular 300ft Mynach Waterfalls.

Be aware that the path is challenging with uneven slate steps, so sturdy footwear is essential. After the steep climb back up to the road, why not stop at the Hafod Hotel adjacent to the exit for a well-earned drink?
Rheidol Cycle Trail
Ride your bike directly from the campsite into Devil’s Bridge and then follow the Rheidol cycle route that starts at the Railway station carpark – click on this link for a map: Rheidol Cycle Trail. This 15 mile trail leads you along cycle paths and quiet country lanes to Aberystwyth. Be sure to check your brakes before you descend steeply from the mountain road down into Cwm Rheidol taking care as you cross over the Vale of Rheidol railway line in Aberffrwd.
Enjoy the sights as you cycle through the beautiful valley. At the halfway point in Capel Bangor, there is a pub and a shop just up the main road to your right where you could call in for refreshments.
At the end of the route in Aberystwyth, you will have reached the beach by the harbour and castle, where there is a lovely beach hut that sells coffee, ice cream, paninis and baguettes (Cash only).
After resting for a while head through town to the Vale of Rheidol Steam Train Station to catch the 2pm train (or the 3.45pm train in high season only) back to Devil’s Bridge. N.B Double check for carriage space for your bike before you head off to Aberystwyth. It’s a long trek uphill back to Devil’s Bridge!
