There are lots of “Things To Do” in and around Devil’s Bridge. We will post a few ideas here but feel free to ask us at reception for ideas and recommendations. Also check out our Blog for ideas from our wardens’ trips on their days off.
WALKS FROM THE CAMPSITE
Ask at reception for a map for various walks from or near the campsite. You can walk from the camping field up to the top of the mountain overlooking Woodlands, or do the 1 hour ‘Mill’ walk ( Maybe two hours if you stop at The Hafod Pub for a drink on the way past ! ). Ask us about the lovely circular walking route, also know as the Weatherman Walking route, 6.5miles that goes from Devil’s Bridge through the upper Rheidol Vallery, Ystumtuen and Ysbyty Cynfyn passing by the old mine remains and Parsons Bridge. (A map is available to borrow).
RHEIDOL CYCLE TRAIL
Ride your bike directly from the campsite into Devil’s Bridge and then follow the Rheidol cycle route that starts at the Railway station carpark – click on this link for a map: Rheidol Cycle Trail. This 15 mile trail leads you along cycle paths and quiet country lanes to Aberystwyth. Be sure to check your brakes before you descend steeply from the mountain road down into Cwn Rheidol taking care as you cross over the Vale of Rheidol railway line in Aberffrwd. Enjoy the sights as you cycle through the beautiful valley. At the half way point in Capel Bangor there is a pub and a shop just up the main road to your right where you could call in for refreshments.
At the end of the route in Aberystwyth you will have reached the beach by the harbour and castle, where there is a lovely beach hut that sells coffee, ice cream, paninis and baguettes ( Cash only ) . After resting for a while head through town to the Vale of Rheidol Steam Train Station to catch the 2pm train (or the 3.45pm train in high season only) back to Devil’s Bridge. N.B Double check for carriage space for your bike before you head off to Aberystwyth. It’s a long trek uphill back to Devil’s Bridge!!
